Sedation Dentistry for the Disabled
It may be especially difficult for people with disabilities to obtain access to proper dental care. They must find a dentist who is skilled and compassionate, and who can provide services for which some dentists may not be qualified. We provide the expertise, state-of-the-art equipment, and dedication to assisting special-needs patients necessary to ensure great oral care for our patients.
Disabled patients may face added challenges in maintaining their oral health. Their disability may make it difficult to brush or floss regularly; they may also suffer severe gag reflex, or dry mouth as a result of medication. Our dentists meet these challenges with sedation dentistry for the disabled and are skilled in anesthesia for special-needs patients and can ease the fear associated with out-of-control oral hygiene with one visit.

Meet Harry Panahi, DMD
In addition to Florida’s general dentist licensure requirements, Dr. Panahi has completed two additional years of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery residency and one year of Anesthesiology at Jackson Memorial Hospital, the major teaching facility for the University of Miami. The main focus of Dr. Panahi’s residency were trauma, anesthesia, and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Harry Panahi, DMD
Sedation Dentist
Upon graduation, Dr. Panahi joined a large multi-specialty group practice where his professionalism and vast clinical knowledge were well respected. Dr. Panahi left that large practice after two years with the goal of creating an office to treat his patients the way he would want to be treated. This gave rise to a smaller office which allows him to provide his patients with a more personal level of attention and care. Dr. Panahi and his wife Ashley, a psychiatric pharmacist, reside in Coral Springs.
While studying dentistry Dr. Panahi was bestowed the prestigious Excellence of Practice award. This award is given to the graduate who displayed the highest potential and aptitude for the practice of dentistry. He was also awarded the Implant Dentistry Award for demonstrating the most interest academically and clinically in implant dentistry as well as the Clinician’s Award. Dr. Panahi is an adjunct professor at Nova Southeastern University.
Multiple Methods of Anesthesia Available At Our Office
Your Safety & Well-Being Are Our Top Priority
Method of Anesthesia | Description of Technique | Usual Indications |
Local Anesthetic | The patient remains totally conscious throughout the procedure. A local anesthetic (e.g. lidocaine) is administered in the area where the surgery is to be performed. Local anesthetic is used in conjunction with the other methods of anesthesia in all oral surgery procedures. | Simple oral surgery procedures such as minor soft tissue procedures and simple tooth extractions. |
Nitrous Oxide Sedation with Local Anesthetic | A mixture of nitrous oxide (laughing gas) and oxygen is administered through a nasal breathing apparatus. The patient remains conscious in a relaxed condition. Nitrous oxide has a sedative and analgesic (pain-controlling) effect. | Simple oral surgery procedures to more involved procedures such as removal of wisdom teeth and placement of dental implants. |
Office Based General Anesthesia with Local Anesthetic* | Medications are administered through an intravenous line (I.V.). The patient falls asleep and is completely unaware of the procedure being performed. Supplemental oxygen is delivered through a nasal breathing apparatus and the patient’s vital signs are closely monitored. | General anesthesia is available for all types of oral surgery. A patient may choose general anesthesia for simple procedures depending on their level of anxiety. Most people having their wisdom teeth removed or having a dental implant placed will choose general anesthesia. General anesthesia may be necessary if local anesthesia fails to anesthetize the surgical site which often occurs in the presence of infection. |
Hospital or Surgery Center Based General Anesthesia | A patient is admitted to a hospital or surgery center where anesthesia is administered by an anesthesiologist. | Indicated for patients undergoing extensive procedures such as face and jaw reconstruction and TMJ surgery. Also indicated for patients with medical conditions such as heart disease or lung disease who require general anesthesia. |

I had such a bad experience in the past that I haven’t been to a dentist in years. But I finally got tired of my horrible teeth and was online. I figured I’d look for a office that dealt with SEDATION. I called after hours knowing that my call wouldn’t be answered but it was. Dr Panahi answered. And he was so comforting and made me feel like I can do this. (He just gave me the feeling) so I went in and the staff was sooooo nice and warm with beautiful welcoming smiles. The office is very nice and clean. I was so impressed that I knew I found my dentist. I’ve been going for a little over a year and I give 10 ⭐️Bridgette Vargas, Google Business Profile Review

I must say that I am particularly sensitive to needles and any dentists’ procedures, this dentist office is the most comfortable I have ever been in. Their staff are always friendly and very professional, and I can honestly recommend this dentist to anyone. The sedation procedures are comforting, and they make you feel like you will be well taken care of while under. Waking up knowing you’ve had a major procedure and felt nothing was a wonderful experience. Seriously, if you want an excellent dentist in north Broward you should visit this practice, I would actually drive 100 miles to visit them.Clive Marshall, Google Business Profile Review

Dr Panahi is my savior. His knowledge, concern and professionalism quickly became apparent. I suffered almost 3 years with my bite changing from another dentist's error. This error caused me to be unable to properly close my mouth and effected my speech. After thorough x-rays, Dr. Panahi solved my problem in minutes. I cried with joy! He will now work on all of all my husband's and my dentist issues. His office is immaculate and his staff is knowledgeable, friendly and extremely helpful. He offers many services including sedation. He is honestly an amazing dentist and human being.Beth Milewski, Google Business Profile Review

This is a wonderful office. Dr. Panahi and his dental team and anesthesiologist are fantastic. I have used them for IV sedation procedures and they were all very kind, understanding and compassionate. I was away from dentists for a very long time (30+ years) before finding this office - I feel very fortunate to have found them. I am so glad I found dental professionals of Coral Springs and Dr. Panahi. I have extreme anxiety when it comes to the dentist, almost a phobia. I knew I was due for a root canal soon and was putting it off because of how scared I was. I searched up sedation dentistry and found this place and let me tell you the reviews are nothing but true. They made me feel so comfortable, provided me with so much information about the procedure and the sedation, and really took care of me on the day of the root canal. I am extremely thankful to them for helping me and for treating me like a valued customer. I highly recommend this dental practice! I am terrified of going to the dentist. Or should I say was. For my whole life going to the dentist was always painful no matter what dentist I went to. It got to the point where I just stopped going. Then I discovered Dental Professionals of Coral Springs. They made me feel at ease from the moment I stepped in the door. They walked me through a treatment plan and explained everything I needed. They also explained the variety of sedation methods they had available. When I went in for my actual treatment- everyone was so kind and gentle. I was not anxious at all and everything went smoothly and I had no pain. I didn’t hesitate to make my follow-up appointment!Kathy Perez, Google Business Profile Review

Because of terrible fear of dentists, I needed a lot of work done. I also needed a dentist with sedation and was even more terrified after reading some reviews (think Steve Martin in Little Shop of Horrors) until I read about Dr. Panahi...Dr. Panahi alleviated some of my fears in our first discussion, but it's hard to overcome a lifetime of terror. He is very easy to talk to and explains everything and answers all questions. The anesthesiologist also made me feel more secure in the procedures that were to take place. The end result, I couldn't be happier. I can finally smile naturally without hiding my teeth, and though I am still afraid of the dentist, I have confidence in this office. I will definitely be recommending Dr. Panahi's office to anyone looking for a dentist.Nina gold freeman, Google Business Profile Review
